Dr. Leighton Cochran, Principal

Dr. Leighton Cochran is a Principal at CPP and has been with the company since 1993. He has conducted hundreds of wind tunnel studies of cladding pressure, pedestrian comfort, and structural dynamics. As a research scientist at Colorado State University, Leighton developed experimental techniques for testing lowrise buildings in a wind-tunnel laboratory. He has written over 400 technical reports and papers for professional journals and symposia.

 

Some of Leighton' s professional memberships include the Institution of Engineers, Australia, the American Association for Wind Engineering, the Australasian Wind Engineering Society, the Australia and New Zealand Architectural Science Association, and the International Committee on Building Envelope Systems and Technologies.

 

Leighton was President of the American Association for Wind Engineering (AAWE) for the 2007-2008 term.

 

Leighton is very active in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He is the Chairman of the Wind Effects Booklet Task Committee and the Chairman of the Wind Effects Committee. He is also a member of the ASCE Committee on Aesthetics in Design, the ASCE Aerodynamics Committee, and the ASCE Committee on Tall Buildings.

 

Leighton composed a chapter on hurricane mitigation for the book Storms, published by Routledge Press in 1999.
