As buildings become taller, lighter, and more slender they become more sensitive to wind-induced building motion. This motion can result in complaints from occupants being discomfited by the motion, disruption to elevator performance, and in extreme cases damage to building finishes.
CPP has a long history of building motion monitoring both in research environments and commercial applications. This experience includes installation of long-term monitoring equipment in the world’s tallest buildings, short-term installation in buildings where complaints had been received, and spot checks on building dynamic characteristics during and following construction to validate design assumptions.
We have experience with all types of instrumentation employed in this type of work, including accelerometers, anemometers, and GPS systems. Our custom logging and analysis software incorporates the latest advances in dynamic analysis, and for long-term installation is designed with user-friendly web-based interfaces that allow clients to monitor the performance of their buildings in real time.
In addition to the measurement of wind-induced motion, we also conduct installations for seismic monitoring, and make measurements on localised vibration issues in buildings to determine the sources of the vibrations and proposed solutions.
